Having already established himself as a master of the Dubstep genre, Emalkay has surprised quite a few people by reinventing his sound. His new EP ‘For The People’ fuses elements of Trap, Electro and House into Emalkay’s already considerable sound palette. When Radio 1’s Skream and Benga invited him to do a guest mix for their show I suppose they can hardly have been surprised when he presented a mix that went through just about every Bass Music genre known to man (plus a few that haven’t been invented yet!). So adept is the genre bending and blending here that you do have to wonder why he’s been so quiet on the DJ mix front recently – this is his first one in a year! As well as all three tracks from his latest EP there’s a previously unheard track called ‘Boy/Girl’ included, plus tracks by Chase & Status, Flux Pavilion, Benga, I Am Legion and IllSkillz, amongst others.
Radio 1 Skream and Benga guest mix tracklist: 1. Emalkay – Tell Me (Radio Edit) 2. Flux Pavilion – Gold Love 3. Ethic – Temple Run 4. Trampa – Jurassic 5. Chase & Status – Machine Gun 6. Emalkay – Boy Girl (Dubplate) 7. Emalkay – For the People 8. Oboroso – Sidewalk (Dubplate) 9. Pawn – Hot Skull 10. I Am Legion – Choosing For You 11. IllSkillz- One Last Tune 12. Camo & Krooked – LYIE (Infuze Remix) 13. Emalkay – Aerosol 14. Moody Good – Grumbles n Sparkles feat. Rejjie Snow & Joshua Idehen 15. Benga – To Hell and Back

I’ve been waiting for my recent run of gigs to finish so I could put out this mix. This was the live set I played at Hot Club De Swing in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago, and to be honest I think it’s a really damn good mix. It definitely got everyone jumping which has to be a good sign!

Basement Freaks have been leaders of the Funky Bass scene for almost a decade with their bootlegs having set the benchmark for quality club rocking bizness. Just last month they released a phat as funk four track EP for free download over on the Ghetto Funk website. They have also been busy collaborating with other massive names like Stickybuds and Mustafa Akba and dropping remixes for some other top artists such as Trotter, Telephunken, Headson Groove, Funk Moguls, Nappy Riddem and Ursulla 1000. If that’s not enough, they have also just released their second studio album on Jalapeno Records, Funk From The Trunk, which can best be described as P-Funk party dynamite. Read our review HERE.
As a part of the Free Breaks Blog relaunch, the B’Freaks have made time in their busy schedule to not only give us an interview, but have graciously put together a sample pack! The pack is chock full of bad ass beats, low slung basslines, sizzling stabs and some of the best funked up and disco samples your likely to find anywhere all for free! As an example I threw together this sample clip to showcase just a small portion of the goodies on offer and in all of five minutes, using only samples from the pack, I managed to get a number of top ideas taking shape, the quality of the pack is plain to hear.
1. Seven various Blaxploitation sample cuts
2. Four various Block Party sample cuts
3. Four various Disco sample cuts
4. Nine various Funky Grooves sample cuts
5. Three various P-funk sample cuts
1. 26 various stabs sampled from Shaft
