Electro Swing Roundup Winter 14-15

Boomtown - Electric BrixtonI must do my blog on time. I must do my blog on time. I must do my blog on time. Yes I’m sorry, life got in the way and I have been out of action for a while. I’m going to have a big push to keep on time for the rest of the year. Still, at least there’s plenty to catch up on…

Boomtown Fair pres MayFair Avenue

Gig of the month goes to another big lineup going down at Electric Brixton. This time they’ve got another killer lineup of Molotov Jukebox Live, the mighty Deekline and Ed Solo, Dunklebunt & Secret Swing Society and the Slamboree Soundsystem.

It sounds absolutely awesome as usual. Tickets are currently £8 for the super early bird. Saturday 21st March 2015 / 22:00 – 06:00 Electric Brixton, Town Hall Parade, SW2 1RJ

New Releases

Swing Republic – Let’s Misbehave

It’s great to see that Swing Republic have a new album out on Freshly Squeezed. Great mix of styles “featuring” many great singers from yesteryear. Available from Juno. Here’s the sampler:

C@ In The H@ – Drugstore Cowboy

Birmingham’s DJ extraordinary has returned with a quality collection of bass heavy swing. Get it from Juno.

Dr Cat – Speakeasy Club Vol. 1

Here’s a great release of club friendly tracks on Green Queen, mixed together by Dr Cat. Available from Juno.

Scour Records – Freemixed Nuts Vol. 3

I am including this in the new releases however the good news is that this whole release on Scour Records is actually FREE. There’s only one that is particularly swingy – the Dephicit & Fritz track, the rest are more ghetto funk orientated, but what’s not to like. Head over to the Scour Facebook and grab yourself the whole lot in beautiful WAV format.

Captain Flatcap – Bonklet Remix EP

Tidy release of remixes Available from Juno

Smokey Joe & The Kid – Rough & Tough EP

Quality two track EP from Paris’ favourite swing & bass heads. Available from beatport.

Jem Stone – Stone Grooves Vol. 1

I never know how to describe Jem Stones releases, but if I had to I’d say they’re like an express train crashing into a brass band. He’s put together a whole album which is designed to be listened to all together. It’s only £4 from bandcamp so if you like it go and show him some love.

Vassili Gemini – Penelope Cruz EP

New EP from another of France’s talented swingers:

Thomas Vent – New Orleans Style

DJ Mixes

Dutty Moonshine have chipped in with a slick and well put together mix. I don’t want to blow their reputation or anything, but when we had them up for our night before Christmas they were really well behaved and very polite…

I’ve been enjoying this housey mix from Phos Toni this month. Well worth a listen:

Slightly more unusual this mix. Sultry downtempo jazz, sleeazy beats and all sorts of film noir inspired goodness from Mr Woox. Great stuff:

Clan Dextine with a slick mix of heavier edged dancefloor orientated swing:

That’s it. See you in a month! If you’ve got anything you’d like included in future roundups hit me up on soundcloud.
