SHINDIG WEEKENDER 2016 REVIEW

It was the third year for The Shindig Weekender as it returned for its most successful event yet.
The fields were covered in Buttercups, the sun was shining… the feeling of summer had truly started and the festival spirit was in everyone.
Friday night jumped into action beautifully with an exploration of the site. There’s plenty to see and do for a little festival, not too big or too small, it’s even got a nicely separated stone circle up on a hill. The setup of stages works a treat, the sound was perfect and everyone was in a great mood.

The Ghetto Funk nightclub really had it going on Friday with the lineup of Too Many T’s rocking the place stoopid, Hong Kong Ping Pong dropping serious amounts of bass and funk bangers and finally the bass ridden Father Funk.
Saturday’s daytime and afternoon schedule jumped into action with Shaka Loves You performing at Ashworth’s Dig Inn. This was also the stage for The Beatbox Collective, who got everyone’s attention with their beatboxing and incredible ability drop any tune or sound with their voice boxes.
Over at the Threadz Store Rig saw a great start to day with Dr.Hooka, Cockney Nutjob and Lack Jemmon. The backdrop to this stage being rolling hills and the cows strolling home to some tasty breaks.

As the evening started, the doors opened to The Fundamentals duo in the Ghetto Funk nightclub and LTJ Bukem with his trademark sound of rolling Liquid D&B flavours over in the Tutti Frutti Cocktail Bar. The Moonshine Circus was definitely a hotspot with Kymberley Kennedy, Cantaloop and Dutty Moonshine finishing off the night with their well known swing bass sound.
At the nightclub for the finale of Saturday night, DJ Detta ripped the decks with the sound of Ghetto Funk followed by the legends Beardyman and JFB. Beardyman started the show with his known and loved talent for arranging and layering his voice, JFB came onto the decks an hour or so in as they jammed together. That wasn’t it for the nightclub, next up was Featurecast with his fine selection of turntablism and cracking remixes, then onto the mighty Ed Solo for the ending of Saturday.

By Sunday, the festival was in full force, just as the sun got brighter and brighter. The Threadz Store had it going for the day with its great selection of DJs such as Bubaking and the heavyweight Bristolian Tremor Takeover. Ashworth’s Dig Inn brought in the crowds too for the evening with Tigerlight playing her great selection of house. The real deal for Sunday definitely had to be WBBL in the Ghetto Funk nightclub, his tracks and remixes really had the place jumping, people smiling everywhere, it was a great ending to the weekend.

This is one festival you need to get your tickets for. What started as a small party for like minded heads and friends, has already grown into a standout start to the festival season. Merging the ever popular mid tempo beats the organisers are so well known for, with proper house music, party drum and bass, hip hop beats and god damn nearly every kind of music this reviewer wants to be hearing at a party, Shindig really has it nailed. Even the sun says so. All in all a really well thought out festival with a superb environment and eclectic crowd. Roll on Shindig 2017 and be sure to vote for them in the next round of festival awards. See you next time!

artworks-000140875309-8lzj11-t500x500

Wolfe & Hypho have got bangers for days!! Throughout 2015 Hypho killed it with bass tracks like “Special Request” “Hyper” and “Ambush”, now he is back with a fresh colab alongside Wolfe as part of Second To None Music’s forthcoming compilation due 29/01/16.

“All U Need” is on the Bass House/grime/Garage tip, a real skanker that will go down well if you dig the likes of Deekline, Spekktrum, Spookz, Joedan, Fish and other talented artists of this ilk. Just like we had bangers like “Special Request” on repeat play in 2015, this one’s gonna be booming out of the office all the way through 2016!!!
