Bombstrikes: 10 Years In 10 Minutes Mix

Bombstrikes 10 Years In 10 Minutes Mix

Bombstrikes has got to be one of the most influential labels in the funky breaks / mashup / ghetto funk scenes and this year see’s them celebrating a decade at the top of their game. Their early output was such a breath of fresh air that every one had to have a copy and it wasn’t long till every release was selling out on vinyl with a huge demand for repress’s. Every key player has released a track or more on the label with notable output from A.Skillz, Krafty Kuts, Nick Thayer, Featurecast, Mooqee, Pimpsoul, Badboe and Slynk. Many more have featured though, with a quick look through their BACK CAT leaving very few of ghetto funk’s finest missing from their roster.

To celebrate, Moqee and Beat Vandals deliver a breakneck 10 minute mix showcasing the last 10 years of the label. Including 2 no.1 compilation albums, 8 Beatport no.1s, 18 Junodownload no.1s, 2 Beatport tracks of the year, biggest selling Junodownload track of all time, 4 Mixmag ‘tunes of the month’, countless 5/5 reviews and much much more.

Expect much more throughout the year, with the original duo putting on a series of special 10 years of Bombstrikes shows. With 4 decks and an array of Bombstrikes classics, exclusive reworks and future classics, Mooqee & Beatvandals plan to put on one hell of a show. Crafted together with the same ethos of party rocking tunes regardless of genre that has served the label so well. Here’s to another 10!

Bombstrikes Circle logolargerinvert

Now its time to throw down with the pairing of one of the biggest labels in the mid tempo, funk & breaks scene and one of the freshest new talents out there today, Bombstrikes and Herbgrinder.

Bombstrikes have really been a leading force in creating the scene, with 2014 being their 10th year in the game. The first two release’s on the label set the standard of the Nufunk / Ghetto Funk sound and original vinyls now sell for serious cash. From early bootlegs to collaborations with all the leading players including Mooqee, A.Skills, Krafty Kuts, Nick Thayer, Featurecast, Badboe and Ali B to future funkers Slynk, J-Roc, Pimpsoul, Neon Steve, Mr No Hands and of course Herbgrinder, they have become a name synonymous with party starting beats and deadly funk basslines.

With this year being a decade in the scene for the label, they have some huge celebrations to come so you really need to be following them on Facebook and Soundcloud for all updates.

Relative newcomer Herbgrinder has really found his place at the label with several high profile remixes and originals released. His fans include all the top names and you wont find many a set without at least one Herbgrinder track in there somewhere. He has already topped sales charts across several genres and has garnered huge support from specialist Radio stations such as Xfm, Kiss and BBC Radio 1 and 1 xtra. The track he has produced for us is a bass heavy, mid tempo thwomp, remixing the classic big beat track from Sol Brothers, “That Elvis Track”. His unique style shines through and samples are cut and pasted seamlessly into a rumbling, wobble infused party rocker that will be a mainstay of your arsenal for some time to come.

Mooqee – Bass Funk Volume 1

BOMBBASSF001 Square Art

Bass Funk is a great name for this collection from DJ, Producer and Bombstrikes honcho Mooqee.  Funk rhythms but with a definite nod more towards the bass side of things, with many of these tracks being well suited to smashing up the summer dance-floors.

I like that this is not all brand new un-heard material, but rather a nicely curated selection of Bombstrikes classics, as well as a few other bits and pieces.  Some of these you will definitely know, and if you haven’t already got them, this £8.99 package is a swell way to get a bunch of superb sounds you definitely need in your arsenal.  For a micro-preview, check out the mini-mix below.

Worth mentioning is that with the full release you also get a considered, skilled mix of all the tracks in the compilation.  Perfect for blasting in the car or on some killer cans.

Everyone who is anyone on the Ghettofunk/Nufunk scene is represented here: Nick Thayer, A.Skillz, Pimpsoul, Featurecast and more.

– “Kill em With the Vibes” – Neon Steve – Bass filth factor 10 with MC Zulu’s lyrics deftly dancing over the top.

– “Fizzle Tickler” – Opiuo – Glitch superstar contributes a swell chunky chugger that blends his trademark sound with some swagger.

– “Sound Around Town” – Mooqee & HerbGrinder – the floor still loves this one every time I play it.

– “Like We Do” – Brothers Bud – Proper funky breakbeat from the Fingerlickin stars.

– “Rain” – Mooqee & HerbGrinder – killer D and B with some super vocal work from Greg Blackman.

With 25 tracks + the DJ mix, this is a great package, go get it!
